Our Fair Housing Commitment

Equal opportunity is built into how we screen and place tenants, in every market we serve.

Equal opportunity

We support the letter and spirit of the federal Fair Housing Act and applicable state and local fair housing laws. We do not discriminate against any applicant on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, disability, or any other class protected under applicable law.

Consistent criteria

We help owners set written screening criteria before a unit is advertised, and we apply those criteria evenly to every applicant. Consistency is both better screening and the foundation of fair housing compliance.

How we screen

Screening evaluates objective, tenancy-relevant factors: verified income, credit, identity, rental and eviction history, and landlord references. Each applicant is assessed against the same standard, and the decision file is documented.

Reasonable accommodations

We support reasonable accommodations and modifications for applicants and tenants with disabilities, consistent with fair housing law.

Reporting a concern

If you believe you have experienced housing discrimination, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at hud.gov, or with your state or local fair housing agency.
